- Netflix has released the first trailer for its latest true crime docuseries.
- "American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders" is about Danny Casolaro's death.
- Casolaro had been investigating a political conspiracy he dubbed "The Octopus" at the time he died.
Journalist Danny Casolaro had been in Martinsburg, West Virginia, in the first weeks of August 1991 to speak to a key source for a story about a political conspiracy. Days later, he was dead in a hotel bathtub.
"American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders" centers on the lingering questions surrounding Casolaro's death, which was initially ruled a suicide. However, Casolaro's family and those he worked with came to believe his death was actually a murder, related to a political conspiracy he was investigating.
Casolaro dubbed the conspiracy "The Octopus," which he believed was a hidden organization of eight men connected to stolen government spy software, unsolved murders, and some of the biggest political scandals of the 20th century.
The four-part Netflix docuseries, out February 28, will follow researcher Christian Hansen's attempts to untangle the mystery of Casolaro's death and the conspiracy.
"American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders" is directed by Zachary Treitz. It's produced by Jay and Mark Duplass' production company, as well as Chapman and Maclain Way, the team behind Netflix's 2018 cult docuseries "Wild Wild Country."
