Elon Musk on Wednesday said he may have made an error by not limiting how much time his children spend on social-media platforms.

During the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk spoke via video link about his succession plans for Twitter, his work schedule, and concerns around artificial intelligence. The summit was broadcast by Bloomberg.

Asked whether he restricts his kids' time on social media, Musk said he didn't have any rules but that "might have been a mistake."

"Depending on which kid it is, they've really been programmed by Reddit and YouTube, I'd say," said Musk, who is the father of nine children.

The CEO of Twitter said he would limit social media "a bit more than he has in the past" and "take note of what they're watching."

"At this point, they're being programmed by some social-media algorithm, which you may or may not agree with," Musk added.

The billionaire shares two children with musician Grimes, five kids with his ex-wife Justine Wilson, and twins with Shivon Zilis, one of the top executives at his brain chip company Neuralink, per a previous Insider report.

He told the Financial Times in October he would be open to having more but his friends' suggestion to have 500 kids was "a bit weird."

Musk has made various changes to Twitter since taking over in late October, including tweaks to the algorithm. This week, many Twitter users said their feeds were full of posts from Musk, per Platformer reporter Zoe Schiffer. He tweeted to users: "Please stay tuned while we make adjustments to the uh .… 'algorithm.'"

Shortly afterward, Platformer reported that Musk had asked Twitter engineers to find ways to promote his tweets after President Joe Biden's Super Bowl post got more engagement than his.
