The third instalment of our ‘3 minutes with’ series is with Heather Townsend, Founder of The Accountants’ Growth Club. Not only is she an author and coach, she’s an expert at delivering workshops and masterclasses to help accountants and consultants progress their career. You might also recognise her as a regular speaker at Accountex events and other conferences around the world.
1. What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Our members often join The Accountants’ Growth Club when they get stuck. That could be needing to be among others, win more of the right type of business, free up their time, get out of a perpetual state of overwhelm, increase their pricing, sort out their team and make their business model scalable and sustainable. Seeing our members resolve their problems and move on to kickstart their growth, is what is one of the most rewarding aspects of being part of the Club.
2. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Stay focused and stay in your own lane. As they say, comparison is the thief of joy.
3. Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know
I used to cox rowing boats at an elite level. I’ve taken crews to international regattas and also won blades when I was at Oxford University.
4. What do you love most about the accounting and finance industry?
The people. Accountants are often the most genuine and nicest people I know.
5. How important is Accountex to you and the sector?
We really missed Accountex in 2020 and 2021. Accountex gives us a way to meet accountants outside of our normal network and sphere. Our members will double in 2022 because of exhibiting and speaking at Accountex in 2022. So you could say, Accountex is really important to us! But it is a great place for Accountants to meet vendors, listen to inspiring speakers and also meet like minded accountants in one place.
