3 Minutes with Rob Brown

Our final interview of the year is with Rob Brown, co-founder of the Accounting Influencers Roundtable and host of the Success in Accounting Podcast. He has interviewed over 1000 leaders, experts and influencers in the accounting/fintech world, wrote the bestselling book Build Your Reputation (Wiley) and his TEDx talk ‘The Personal Brand of You’ has been viewed over 300,000 times on YouTube. 

 1. How did you get into the profession?

As a part-qualified accountant and former high school mathematics teacher, I’ve always been interested in numbers. My passion turned into coaching super-smart, technically brilliant accounting professionals to sell themselves, bring in new business and think more commercially. Now, helping accountants be and do better is a noble cause given how they perform such a vital role in keeping the world going. Accountants are not just trusted advisors but coaches, therapists and business partners to the many clients they serve.

 2. Who or what inspires you to be even better?

The number one thing that inspires me to keep improving is the need to stay relevant. In today’s fast changing world, skills, knowledge and relationships become outdated quickly. We all need to stay current, skilled – assuming what got you here will serve you going forward is either arrogance or stupidity.

 3. Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know

I’m qualified to coach 7 sports and can play 4 musical instruments.
