What do Acenteus Accounting do?

Acenteus Accounting is a UK-based outsourced accounting and finance partner headquartered in Brighton, with our registered office at Plus X Innovation, Lewes Road, Brighton and Hove, Brighton, BN2 4GL.  

We are an ACCA-certified firm with registration number 5590782. We operate with GDPR-compliant processes and a strong focus on secure, cloud-enabled delivery because confidentiality, accuracy, and trust are central to how we work. 

At Acenteus, we support accounting practices with expert resourcing, outsourcing, and operational support designed to help firms grow with confidence. We work with multiple accountancy practices across the UK, including firms in the top 50 practices, and our model is built to help them manage workload peaks, recruitment challenges, and process bottlenecks without sacrificing quality. What makes Acenteus different is that we do not approach outsourcing as a simple staffing exercise. We work as an extension of the practice, combining skilled people, structured processes, and practical technology-led support. We take time to understand how a firm already operates, then fit into its existing workflow rather than forcing a rigid model. 

If a practice already has working papers, bookkeeping rules, CRM tools, or preferred software, we adapt to that. If we see a better or more efficient way of working, we will say so. That combination of flexibility, technical quality, and honest operational insight is a big part of what sets us apart. 

Communication is also a major part of our approach. We stay closely connected with clients through Teams, WhatsApp, and online chat, which helps ensure support stays responsive and practical throughout the day. We believe that outsourcing only works well when it feels like a true partnership, not a remote transaction. 

Our leadership team brings together strong technical and operational experience: 

• Chris Barnard is ACCA certified and was recognised in Accountancy Age’s 35 Under 35 list. He has helped over 100 accounting professionals and brings a strong understanding of how firms can scale while maintaining quality and client service. 

• CA Joel Kurian is a Chartered Accountant with more than 15 years of experience in accounting, finance operations, and business process automation. He focuses on accuracy, compliance, efficiency, and helping firms build scalable delivery models that support sustainable growth. 

We also have previous Accountex experience, which has been very valuable for us. At Accountex London 2026, Chris Barnard and CA Joel Kurian were at Stand 514 meeting accounting professionals, firms, and industry partners. That experience reinforced how relevant these events are for connecting directly with practices that are actively looking for smarter ways to scale. 

How did you get started?

Acenteus Accounting was founded by Chris Barnard and CA Joel Kurian, two experienced accounting professionals who saw the same problem from different angles.

UK practices were under growing pressure from workload peaks, recruitment challenges, and process bottlenecks, leaving partners stuck doing work that should have been handled further down the line. Chris and Joel built Acenteus to provide a smarter outsourcing model. Rather than simply offering extra hands, they set out to create a trusted extension of the practice, helping firms across the UK gain capacity, protect quality, and stay focused on client relationships. That shared belief became the foundation for Acenteus Accounting.

Chris and Joel set out to build an outsourcing partner that gives accounting practices the capacity to grow without compromising quality, control, or client relationships. Today, Acenteus supports practices across the UK with a team of more than 100 accounting professionals.

What began as two professionals recognising a recurring industry challenge has grown into a business focused on one clear purpose: helping accounting practices create capacity, operate more efficiently, and scale with confidence.
