President Joe Biden announced his bid for a second term in a video shared on social media on Tuesday morning, setting up a potential rematch against former President Donald Trump.

In the video, which is a little over three minutes long, Biden urged voters to let him "finish the job."

He added that the work of his first term in office had been about fighting for democracy, personal freedom, and protecting the rights of Americans.

Biden took aim at "MAGA extremists" in the video, who he accused of threatening those freedoms.

The announcement accused Republicans of "dictating" women's healthcare decisions, banning books, and telling people who they can love.

"All while making it more difficult for you to be able to vote," he said.

The announcement comes four years to the day after Biden said he would run for president in 2019.

"When I ran for president four years, I said we were in a battle for the soul of America, and we still are," Biden said in the video.

"The question we're facing is whether in the years ahead, we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer, I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too," Biden added.

Biden did not namecheck Trump in his announcement, but if the former president becomes the Republican nominee, 2024 will see a rematch of the contentious 2020 presidential race.

The video opened with imagery from the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Biden will be 81 at the time of the next election, while Trump will be 78.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who also shared the video on social media, remains on the ticket.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a senior White House adviser who worked on Harris' 2020 presidential bid, will lead Biden's 2024 reelection campaign, it was announced.

The campaign also said on Tuesday that Quentin Fulks, who was campaign manager for Sen. Raphael Warnock's victorious campaign in Georgia last year, will be the principal deputy campaign manager for the reelection bid, per CBS News.

Shortly after the video launch of their campaign, Biden and Harris made the reelection bid official by filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
