Denmark’s PM Frederiksen Called Snap Election To Surf on Trump’s Greenland Controversy, But Cost-Of-Living Led Her Social Democrats To Worst Results Since Early 20th Century

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen

Frederiksen comes out ahead, but short of a majority.

It’s one thing to be constantly posturing in the MSM, be it warmongering for Ukraine, or else surfing in the European elites’ wave of Trump Derangement Syndrome, but it’s a totally different thing to have support among your population when your government submits them to an unprecedented cost-of-life crisis.

Reuters reported:

“Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emerged ahead but weakened in Tuesday’s election, as the cost-of-living crisis appeared to obscure Denmark’s support for her tough stance against U.S. President Donald Trump over Greenland.

In power since 2019, Frederiksen has benefited in ‌recent months from her resistance to Trump’s desires to control the Arctic island, but many Danes have grown weary of her focus on international affairs and accused her of neglecting domestic woes.”

Polls are predicting between 83 and 86 seats in Parliament for Frederiksen’s left block, and between 75 and 78 to the right.

“If official results confirm the outcome, Frederiksen may struggle to form a cabinet. She will likely need support from across the political spectrum, similar to her outgoing cabinet, Denmark’s first to bring left- and right-wing parties together in more than four decades.”

Frederiksen thought her stance in the Greenland controversy would help her win a landslide majority, but that didn’t happen.

The Prime Minister is respected among the Brussels establishment, but when it comes to internal policies, she is increasingly contested.

“’She is between a rock and a hard place because the (exit poll) numbers are bad for her’, said Andreas Thyrring, a partner at Ulveman & Borsting public affairs advisory firm.”
