  • At one point, Musk asked Chappelle: "What should I say?"

Elon Musk was met with boos from a crowd when he made an appearance on stage at Dave Chappelle's comedy show on Sunday evening in San Francisco.

"Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for the richest man in the world," Chappelle announced, according to posts from Twitter users who claimed they attended the show, as well as several videos posted from a Twitter account which has since been deleted.

Phones and cameras were banned and locked away in pouches at the show, the venue Chase Center said. Despite the videos from the deleted-account being removed, they were reposted by other Twitter users.

When Musk walked on stage in the 18,000-seat stadium, there were cheers and boos, but the boos got considerably louder as he started waving, per the videos, which Insider has seen. One Twitter user who claimed they were at the show tweeted that around 80% of the crowd booed.

"Cheers and boos, I see," Chappelle said, the videos showed.

"Weren't expecting this were you?" Musk said.

"It sounds like some of the people you fired are in the audience," Chappelle said, seemingly referring to the firings at Twitter which Musk ordered after his takeover in late October. The billionaire laughed in response, per the videos.

Chappelle defended Musk during his stand-up set, according to the videos. The comedian said all the people who were booing had "terrible seats" at the show. Chappelle also said Musk's mission was to leave Earth anyway and go to Mars, per the videos.

Musk then thanked Chappelle for having him on the show. Chappelle replied, saying he wouldn't miss the opportunity, according to the videos.

"The first comedy club on Mars, that should be mine. A deal is a deal, Musk," Chappelle said, appearing to take light of the billionaire's complicated acquisition of Twitter this year.

According to tweets and videos, Musk said: "Dave, what should I say?"

"Don't say nothing. It'll only spoil the moment. Do you hear that sound, Elon? That's the sound of pending civil unrest," Chappelle said.

Representatives of Chappelle didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment made outside of normal US operating hours.

The comedian has come under fire after he was accused of making transphobic comments in his 2021 comedy special "The Closer." Musk has also been scrutinized for mocking gender pronouns. In a tweet on Sunday, Musk wrote "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci."
