A decorated and beloved musician’s life was extinguished by a career criminal last weekend while participating in an innocuous activity.

As The New York Post reported, Rhode Island musician Roderick MacLeod was walking his dog on the shoulder of a road in Hopkinton when he was fatally struck by a car driven by Shannon Godbout on Saturday at roughly 7:20 a.m.

The Hopkinton Police Department revealed Godbout swerved out of her lane and slammed into multiple objects, including two telephone poles, before smacking the 70-year-old MacLeod.

Paramedics rushed Macleod to the hospital via ambulance, but they arrived too late, and he was later pronounced dead.

The Post notes Macleod’s dog managed to survive the incident and ran home.

According to police, the 41-year-old Godbout was found at the scene in possession of several illegal narcotics and packaging materials associated with drug distribution. Police say she may face additional charges.

Godbout has a long, sordid criminal history consisting of OVER 100 arrests. Eight of these arrests were from the Hopkinton Police Department.

Moreover, she has had a whopping 82 court warrants issued against her and also received 40 traffic citations.

This should lead all to wonder why Godbout was ever a free woman to begin with.

Godbout remained in custody at Rhode Island Hospital as of Monday. The Hopkinton Police Department stated that they are collaborating with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office to present Godbout in court as a probation violator.

MacLeod was a bassist for the band Roomful of Blues in the 1980s and received a Grammy nomination for his work with them.

MacLeod was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

Friends of Macleod remembered him as a cheerful, hard-working person who was a pleasure to be around.

“He was just always upbeat and cheerful,” musician Doug James told WJAR. “He was a good addition to anything he did. Few people play that well on everything, and he did.”

“He really worked hard at all the stuff he did, but it never looked like that it always just came very easily — it appeared to come easily,” he added.
