Mark Zuckerberg said it has been a "good week" for Meta's new social network Threads in spite of its daily active user base plummeting since its launch.

The Meta chief posted on Threads on Friday and said the platform's community is "on the trajectory." However, it appears to be on a downward trajectory as data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower showed Threads' daily active user rate has dropped by around 82% since the early days of its launch.

The data showed it had 8 million users at the end of July, down from a high of 44 million days after Threads launched on July 5.

Zuckerberg wrote in a Threads post: "A good week for Threads. The community here is on the trajectory I expect to build a vibrant long term app. Lots of work ahead but excited about the team's pace of shipping. Search and web coming in the next few weeks."

Threads currently doesn't offer users the options to search for posts, it only allows you to search for other users. The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, said last month that it's working to bring "obvious missing features" onto the app, including hashtags, trending topics and the ability to view likes.

In the first seven hours of its launch, ten million users signed up for the text-based platform, Zuckerberg said in a post on the app. In another post two weeks ago, he said he was "very optimistic" about the roll out. He added that Threads would focus on "improving the basics and retention" for the remainder of this year.

"It'll take time to stabilize, but once we nail that then we'll focus on growing the community," he wrote. "We've run this playbook many times (FB, IG, Stories, Reels, etc) and I'm confident Threads is on a good path too."

Zuckerberg's follower count on Threads is significantly lower than it is on Instagram. He currently has 3.2 million followers, which is just over a quarter of the 12 million followers he has on Instagram.

Meta didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside of normal working hours.
