Set in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan, "Mayor of Kingstown" follows the powerful McLusky family as they attempt to bring justice and order to their community. Serving as power brokers in an area where incarceration is the biggest business, the McLuskys' journey explores themes of corruption, inequality, and systemic racism. In season two, Mike is dealing with the aftermath of a deadly prison uprising that tore the town apart.

Jeremy Renner returns for the show's the second season as Mike McLusky. The cast also includes Dianne Wiest as Mike's mother Miriam, Hugh Dillon as Detective Ian Ferguson, Tobi Bamtefa as gang leader Deverin "Bunny" Washington, and Taylor Handley as Mike's detective younger brother Kyle.

"Mayor of Kingstown" is co-created by Taylor Sheridan, who also co-created "Yellowstone" and developed its spinoffs "1883" and "1923." Sheridan also created the Paramount Plus original series "Tulsa King," which stars Sylvester Stallone.
