OpenAI sets up safety and security committee and starts training 'next frontier model'

OpenAI said it has set up a safety and security committee to make recommendations to the board on "critical safety and security decisions."

The committee will be chaired by Bret Taylor, and include fellow directors Adam D'Angelo and Nicole Seligman as well as CEO Sam Altman.

The company also said it had begun training a new flagship AI model to succeed GPT-4.

It said in a Tuesday blogpost: "OpenAI has recently begun training its next frontier model and we anticipate the resulting systems to bring us to the next level of capabilities on our path to AGI."

OpenAI recently launched its updated GPT-4o model, which uses native audio inputs and outputs. When integrated into ChatGPT, users can have human-like conversations with the bot, speaking to it and showing it things.
