Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as the 112th mayor of New York City just after midnight in an abandoned subway station beneath City Hall.

Mamdani, born in Uganda and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, placed his hand on the Quran during the oath, administered by none other than radical New York Attorney General Letitia James.

This marks him as the first Muslim mayor of America’s largest city, a move that’s already sparking outrage among patriots who see it as another step in the left’s agenda to transform the U.S. into something unrecognizable.

Following the underground ceremony, a public inauguration with another socialist Senator Bernie Sanders is scheduled to take place later today on the steps of City Hall.

WATCH:

Newly sworn-in Mayor Zohran Mamdani has launched a “New Era” agenda for New York City, centered on a “socialist project” aimed at redistributing wealth and “lowering the cost of living.”

Following his historic swearing-in at an abandoned subway station, Mamdani’s “socialist dream” focuses on these primary goals:

  • Universal Free Childcare: His top priority is to provide free childcare for all children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, estimated to cost roughly $6 billion annually.
  • Rent Freeze: A pledge to freeze rent for the city’s approximately 1 million rent-stabilized households.
  • “Fast and Free” Buses: A plan to eliminate fares on all city buses while building priority lanes to speed up service.
  • City-Owned Grocery Stores: A pilot program for five municipally controlled supermarkets (one in each borough) that would sell food at wholesale prices, intended for underserved “food deserts”.
  • $30 Minimum Wage: A commitment to raising the city’s wage floor to $30 an hour by 2030.
  • Social Housing Expansion: A 10-year, $100 billion plan to build 200,000 units of permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized housing.
  • Progressive Taxation: Funding for these programs relies on taxing the wealthiest 1% of New Yorkers (a flat 2% tax for those earning over $1 million) and raising the corporate tax rate to 11.5%.
  • Democratizing Government: Intentions to create neighborhood “popular assemblies” to empower working-class residents in city decision-making.
  • “Trump-Proofing” NYC: A commitment to protecting immigrant communities from federal deportation raids and maintaining NYC as a sanctuary city.
  • Department of Community Safety: A new agency designed to pair traditional policing with mental health and homelessness services.
Mamdani intends to fund these multi-billion dollar initiatives through significant tax hikes on the wealthy and corporations:
  • Increasing the corporate tax rate from 9% to 11.5%.
  • Implementing a 2% flat tax on city residents earning over $1 million annually.
  • Ending tax breaks for luxury real estate developments to redirect funds toward non-profit and community land trusts
