An inventory manager, an auto body technician, or an environmental health and safety specialist could be good entry-level job options for people who don't have a four-year degree, according to Indeed.
To find the best entry-level jobs that don't need a degree, Indeed looked at occupations that don't have a four-year college degree requirement, want zero to three years of experience per job descriptions, and pay over $40,000 a year. Additionally, "the jobs on this list were identified based on growth in the share of postings measured from September 2021 through February 2022 vs. September 2022 through February 2023," per Indeed.
"In general, for the entry-level jobs that don't require a degree, we did see a little bit of a pattern with a demand for technical skills," Kristen Shah, a career expert at Indeed, told Insider. "We are seeing things like auto body technicians, aircraft maintenance technicians, things like that."
Salon manager was one of the jobs that ranked toward the top of the list. It ranked No. 4 based on its 95% increase in job share. Inventory manager had the largest demand based on its percent change in its job share.
"An inventory manager basically oversees the inventory levels of a business," Shah said. "This job has an average annual salary of $59,000, and we did find 189% job share percentage increase."
"I think that in general for these entry-level jobs that don't require a college degree, we are seeing quite a few technical skills popping up," Shah said, adding that attending a trade school or learning a certain skill could be helpful for people without a "traditional degree" and who are looking to land a job.
Indeed also analyzed its data to see what jobs may be good for college graduates who are or will be looking for entry-level work.
"The reason we decided to split it into two lists is because we really wanted to have an all-encompassing look at the kinds of jobs that job seekers in their early stages of their career can expect to see," Shah said. "And we know that early in your career, you might not know which direction you want to go into. And so, we really wanted to create a good jumping off point as job seekers are looking at the skills they have and where they apply in their first steps in their careers."
Below are the best entry-level jobs that don't usually need a four-year degree based on the jobs that were included in Indeed's methodology. The jobs were ranked by the increase in the share of job postings.
