U.S. Marshals RAID Home of Former Republican Lobbyist Jim Courtovich

U.S. Marshals raided the upscale home of former Republican lobbyist Jim Courtovich, enforcing a federal court order tied to a $4 million judgment stemming from allegations of financial misconduct.

Courtovich, the founder of Sphere Consulting and a fixture on the K Street party circuit, once rubbed elbows with media elites and GOP heavyweights.

During the 2016 Republican primary, Courtovich supported Jeb Bush, one of Trump’s main rivals. He reportedly did not vote in the 2016 general election.

According to a report from The New York Times and journalist Brody Mullins, a team of armed federal agents arrived at Courtovich’s multimillion-dollar residence near Kalorama just before 10 a.m., loudly announcing their presence and warning they were prepared to forcibly enter if necessary.

The raid enforces a federal court judgment ordering him to repay $4 million-plus, in what Saudi-backed investors claim was a brazen breach of contract and outright fraud.

“US Marshals this morning raided the home of Jim Courtovich, the once-high flying Republican lobbyist & fixer.
Saudi & other business partners had won a judgment against him for stealing $4m, & the raid was an effort to collect, reports Brody Mullins, who was on the scene & has a lively dispatch in his new Influence newsletter.”

According to Mullins:

A team of a half-dozen federal agents arrived at Courtovich’s mulitmillion-dollar home near Kalorama a few minutes before 10 a.m.

“U.S. Marshals,” they yelled while banging on his front door for several minutes. A dog barked inside.

“We can break your door down, I’d rather not.”

Courtovich eventually came to the door and was asked to step outside. He was shown the court papers.

Agents entered the property, where they remain.

A few minutes at 10 a.m., moving vans pulled up outside the residence.

The saga began back in 2015, when the Saudi-linked LLC handed Courtovich $4 million. Half was supposed to help purchase his swanky Massachusetts Avenue rowhouse on Capitol Hill, with the rest invested in his lobbying firm, SGR LLC, Politico reported.

Courtovich allegedly used portions of the cash for personal expenses, including back taxes, while failing to deliver the promised equity stake in his company or honor the loan terms. The investors claimed he even took out a mortgage on the property against the agreement’s explicit rules.

Fast-forward to 2018: Woodland Drive sued Courtovich in federal court in D.C. After years of legal wrangling, Courtovich signed a settlement in June 2024 agreeing to pay $1.25 million by late July and hand over a deed of trust on the townhouse.

He admitted liability for the full $4 million if he defaulted. But Courtovich allegedly blew past the deadline – no payment, no deed. By August 2024, the LLC was back in court, demanding the full judgment, plus interest and attorney’s fees.

Things escalated further in July 2025 when a judge held Courtovich in civil contempt for failing to turn over basic financial documents. Daily fines kicked in at $250, then ramped up to $1,000 per day. Courtovich’s team has claimed some sort of side deal with the family.
