Apple just announced it's holding an October event next week. The Scary Fast keynote will be online only. When you enter Apple's website event section, there's an interesting easter egg, as the Apple logo becomes the Finder icon.
The Finder icon is exclusive to the Mac, which teases that this will be a Mac-centered keynote. BGR was the first to confirm that something could happen soon, as orders for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models had a 3-4 weeks delay, meaning these Macs were sold out.
After that, other Macs have appeared as sold out at the Apple Store and some third-party sellers, including the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported on the weekend that Apple could be planning to update these three Macs, although it would be the first time the company would switch its strategy and announce both entry-level and high-end processors at the same time.
Usually, the company would announce entry-level Macs with its new batch of silicon and, a few months later, the Pro and Max variations. Now, if the rumors are accurate, Apple will announce most of its M3 chips at once.
Here's what we know about these announcements:
- 13-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed Mac 15,3 and J504): could be announced in October with the M3 chip; it was last updated in June 2022.
- 24-inch iMac (codenamed Mac 15,4, Mac 15,5, J433, and J434): last updated in April 2021, Gurman expects this machine to get the M3 chip in the October event.
- High-end MacBook Pro (codenamed Mac 15,7, Mac 15,8, J514, and J516): updated in January 2023, Apple took 14 months to introduce the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips; Gurman says this computer is nearing mass production.
Lastly, the Scary Fast name is another easter egg to note on this Apple event. Not only will the company be holding a late-in-the-day keynote, but it's a day before Halloween.
Cupertino is also readying new MacBook Air, Mac mini, and more models for 2024.
