Google Chrome for iOS tests Safari data import feature at long last

In the latest beta of Google Chrome for iOS, the browser is finally able to import your Safari browsing data for easy switching. As spotted by The Mac Observer, the feature is in version 145 of the beta and involves importing a file created through Safari.

To use the new feature in Chrome, the user must first export their data from Safari. This can be done in iOS 26 through Settings > Apps > Safari, scroll down to the History and Website Data section, and then tap Export. An Export Browsing Sata window opens, where you can select the data you want to export (Bookmarks, History, Extensions, Credit Cards, and Passwords). Select the items you want, and then tap Save to Downloads. This will save a file to the Downloads section of the Files app.

With that done, you can go into Chrome and import the Safari data. To do this, launch Chrome and tap the Options button (the three dots, “…”) at the bottom of the screen. Tap Settings, then scroll down to find “Safari import” option at the bottom of the list. Tap it, and follow the steps; Chrome will guide you through the data import procedure.

This feature is in the beta for version 145. The officially released version in the App Store is currently version 144, so this feature won’t be available to the general public until the beta cycle is over and Google updates Chrome in the App Store.
