An RFK press dinner in New York reportedly devolved into a farce

  • Long-shot Democratic presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. found himself in an unusual crisis.
  • According to The New York Post, Kennedy Jr. was a dinner that descended into a farce.
  • One attendee, who wanted to underline his point, began to fart on purpose.

We know how a fart goes over in church. Now, thanks to Page Six we know how not silent the news is when someone lets it rip in front of a presidential candidate.

According to The New York Post, a recent dinner between long-shot Democratic hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the press descended into a farce as two writers faced off on global climate change.

"I'm farting!" former gossip columnist Doug Dechert exclaimed as he verbally jousted with art critic Anthony Haden-Guest over climate change.

Haden-Guest had called his friend a "miserable blob" as dinner took a turn when climate change came up. Dechert, who reportedly screamed, "The climate hoax!" Not satisfied, Dechert then resorted to farting to underline his point, presumably exacerbating the greenhouse effect in the process.

Kennedy Jr., an environmentalist who has pivoted to dismissing vaccine science, was described as maintaining a "steady composure in the face of the crisis."

Sure, his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, faced down the Cuban missile crisis. And his father, Robert F. Kennedy, was in the thick of the federal response to defending civil rights protestors.

But not everyone can choose their moment.

Haden-Guest said he just simply couldn't believe his decades-long friend would dismiss climate change.

"Doug said it was a hoax and scam," he told The Post. "A scam for who? Who is benefiting? That's not a political thing, it's a human existence thing."

When The Post called Dechert after the affair, he was apologetic for his rhetorical tactic.

"I apologize for using my flatulence as a medium of public commentary in your presence."

He then asked to be referred to as a "gallivanting boulevardier" or a "beer-fueled sex rocket."

If only, Dechert was in a wind storm.
