Departing Twitter employees share bittersweet photos of laptops covered with blue bird stickers and other company memorabilia

The Twitter logo is seen on a mobile device in ths illustration photo in Warsaw, Poland on 30 October, 2022. Twitter is losing its most active users according to research done by Reuters. Despite the most impactful tweeters making up only 10 percent of the monthly users they are together responsible for 90 percent of all tweets and around half of the company's revenue.
Elon Musk's stay-or-go ultimatum to Twitter staff appears to have prompted mass resignations.
  • More than half of Twitter's remaining staff appear to have chosen to leave the company, Insider reported.
  • Some took to Twitter to post bittersweet photos of company laptops emblazoned with blue bird stickers.
  • Some stickers featured hashtags popular among Twitter staff such as #LoveWhereYouWorked and #OneTeam.

Twitter employees who chose severance rather than commit to Elon Musk's new "hardcore" vision for the social-media platform have shared bittersweet recollections of their time at the company — including photos of laptops emblazoned with blue bird stickers and other memorabilia.

The stickers include diverse variations of Twitter's iconic blue bird logo, as well as popular hashtags like #LoveWhereYouWorked and #OneTeam. There's even a reference to the viral Birds Aren't Real conspiracy theory.

Elon Musk's vision for Twitter appears not to have proved popular among the company's remaining employees. On Thursday, Insider reported that more than half of Twitter's roughly 4,000 remaining staff opted to accept severance rather than commit to Musk's "extremely hardcore" vision for the company.

"I may be #exceptional, but gosh darn it, I'm just not #hardcore," Andrea Horst, who worked in supply chain and capacity management, said.

"I'm off the rollercoaster for real this time," said software engineer Lyee Chong.

"So much respect for all Tweeps, whichever hard, imperfect choice you made today," Annie Sultan, another staffer, said.

In an email earlier this week, Musk ordered all Twitter employees to commit to his "extremely hardcore" vision for Twitter by clicking a sign up-link before 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, or else be laid off with three months' severance.

Insider reported that senior executives later attempted to personally convince some "critical" personnel to stay.

Twitter didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
