Utilico Emerging Markets Trust Senior Analyst Mark Lebbell gives focusIR an insight into the digital infrastructure 'megatrends' which will drive growth in global emerging markets into the future.
Mark Lebbell's area of expertise is digital infrastructure. UEM is an London Stock Exchange-listed Investment Trust investing principally in listed companies in emerging markets in the infrastructure space - utilities, transport and digital.
"We invest in companies providing fixed and mobile telecommunications, fixed line broadband and cable TV providers, data centres, communication towers and satellites - and increasingly we are investing in IT service companies providing, managing or customising digital services."
Mark stressed that although digitisation is happening at a faster pace in South Korea compared to the UK, and that people are only connecting to the internet for the first time in rural Africa, there are opportunities at every level of the spectrum to drive returns because internet connectivity is increasingly essential wherever you are in the world.
'In simple terms we are looking for companies that can double their price, adjusted for dividends on a five year view, with limited downside risk as well.'
